John Lennon
He formed his first band at age sixteen, and when Paul McCartney attended
a performance in 1957 he shortly afterwards became a member. McCartney's musical
skills impressed Lennon -- and Lennon's brains impressed McCartney.

Soon they had agreed that everything written by either of them would from
that point on be credited to "Lennon-McCartney," a promise they
kept for almost fifteen years. George Harrison eventually joined and, later
on, Pete Best, who was replaced on the brink of the group's breakthrough by
Ringo Starr. With various band names including The Quarry Men, Johnny &
the Moondogs, and the Silver Beatles, they finally settled on the name the
Beatles, after the Crickets, whom they idolized, with Lennon misspelling it
to make the pun on "beat group".
John Lennon, who had been deeply involved with Cynthia Powell since 1957,
married her in 1962 when she became pregnant with Julian. The Beatles' enormous
success, which followed almost immediately, was overwhelming beyond belief.

John
Lennon Book: The Lives of John Lennon
It is with some irony that this biography of John Lennon, when it was published
in 1988, created such unease, it led to death threats to the author and its
ritual burning at Beatles conventions. The book's subject, had he still been
living may have sympathised. He provoked similar displays of hatred from Christian
groups after he commented to an American journalist in 1966, that the Beatles
were now more popular than Jesus Christ.
Such was the hatred for Goldman following its publication that he was virtually
excommunicated from the music and publishing world.

John
Lennon DVD: Gimme Some Truth
An instant classic when released in September 1971, John Lennon's Imagine
was the ex-Beatle's solo masterpiece, and its musical legacy is matched here
by priceless footage of Lennon's creative process, independently edited from
original 16-millimeter footage by producer-director Andrew Solt with the hands-off
approval of Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. Incorporating footage from John and
Yoko's original film Imagine (clips of which were previously included in the
1988 documentary Imagine: John Lennon), Gimme Some Truth presents Lennon,
Ono, co-producer Phil Spector and a host of gifted musicians in a fluid context
of conflict, community and craftsmanship. Bearing witness to every stage of
the recording process, this 63-minute documentary succeeds as a visual diary,
a study of familiar music in its infancy and a revealing portrait of the then-30-year-old
Lennon--from witty clown to confrontational perfectionist--at the peak of
his post-Fab Four inspiration.
