Sean Connery
From humble beginnings, growing up in a working class neighborhood in Edinburgh,
Sean Connery gave no indication of the achievements that were destined to
come. Sean was born into a working class family in August of 1930. The oldest
of two boys, he spent much of his youth working at menial jobs, just to get
by. He left school at an early age and went to work full-time.

At sixteen, he enlisted in the Royal Navy. Like many young men in the Navy,
he opted for a tattoo. However, unlike many tattoos, his were not frivolous
- his tattoos reflect two of his lifelong commitments: his family and Scotland.
After six decades, his tattoos still reflect those two ideas.
A long bout with a stomach ulcer shortened his "naval career". He
returned to Edinburgh and seemed to settle into a life of hard work: bricklayer,
lifeguard, and coffin polisher. Sean spent much of his free time bodybuilding,
a pastime that eventually started his acting career. His hobby of bodybuilding
culminated in a bid for the 1950 Mr. Universe title where he placed third.

Connery Biography: Sean Connery
Sean Connery dreamed of being rich enough to own a piano. After time as a
choirboy, coffin polisher, nude model and bodybuilder, he decided he wanted
to act, and his perseverance finally paid off when he beat better-known competition
to play the first James Bond in "Dr No". His suave and sophisticated
007 became a worldwide cult figure and turned him into a (reluctant) superstar.
Yearning to move on from the Bond persona, Connery went on to star in some
truly memorable movies ...

Sean
Connery Film: Finding Forrester
Brilliant baseball player Jamal gets the chance to move from a sink school
in the Bronx to a private academy where his real intellectual and artistic
talent will be nurtured along with his sporting skills. This is an American
film about class and race, but one that makes the real issue Jamal's unsuspecting
need to defend himself against accusations of plagiarism. His artistic mentor
is a reclusive novelist, whose whereabouts he keeps secret even when he stands
to lose everything. Rob Brown is extraordinary as the boy, conveying the sensitivity,
genius, obstinacy and physicality of a character written as a paragon; Sean
Connery turns in a predictably fine performance as Forrester, using his authority
to make the part credible.
