A A Milne
Scots by birth, Alan Milne spent his childhood in London, where his father
was a preparatory schoolmaster. His early education owed much to the skills
of a young teacher and mentor -- H.G. Wells -- years later, Milne described
Wells as "a great writer and a great friend."

A A Milnes first literary efforts were published in the humourous magazine
Punch, where a month after his twenty-fourth birthday he started work as Assistant
Editor, remaining there until the outbreak of the First World War.
A. A. Milne didn't write the stories and poems for children. He intended them
for the child within us all. He rarely read the stories and poems to his son
Christopher, preferring to amuse him with the works of P.G. Wodehouse, one
of Milne's favourite authors.

A Milne Book: "The Complete Winnie the Pooh"
A.A. Milne's timeless stories about a boy and his bear
have been delighting children since 1928! Little ones love Pooh, but tough
10-year-olds also have plenty to say about him. As one almost-11-year-old
told me, "Winnie the Pooh rules!"
Christopher Robin once asked Pooh "Pooh, PROMISE you won't forget about
me, ever. Not even when I'm a hundred." Of course, Pooh promised to remember,
and he has. Just like the rest of us.

A Milne Book: "When We Were Very Young"
This book is essential for any childs bookshelf. As a first book of poetry it
is both poignant and funny. It appeals to both children and adults alike and
is suitable from a very early age. The concluding poem 'Vespers' is essential
bedtime reading. In short any child brought up without this poetry is being
shortchanged indeed. |
