Christopher Payne is the third generation of furniture experts in his family. His grandfather opened a shop in 1901. He started his career at Sotheby's where he stayed for 25 years, becoming a Director of the Furniture Department.

Recognised as a regular expert on The Antiques Roadshow, he is now a private fine art consultant advising clients internationally and is concentrating on writing and furniture research.
